Safeguarding and Inclusion Team
We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. We expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Our school is a safe place for children, where our responsibilities for safeguarding children are taken seriously.
The Safeguarding and Inclusion team members are: Karen Rolf, Laura Atkinson, Joanne Gosling and Susan Marsh. The Team meet formally on a half termly basis to discuss well-being of children, families and staff. Families are welcome to drop in to speak to Mrs Atkinson or Mrs Marsh if they require support with well-being or attendance strategies. We also offer food banks for families who are in need.
As a school, we recognise that at times all children and families require a little more support. At Sunnyside, we offer extra support through friendly chats, direction towards specialist support, early help assessments and a range of support programmes for pupils.
Through our curriculum we teach the children about personal safety, and how to keep themselves safe from harm. Our curriculum includes opportunities to discuss feelings and emotions, and helps our children to think about their own personal safety and their rights as individuals to be kept safe from harm.
We also offer a number of small group work shops for children who have gone through separation and loss, require a self-esteem boost or just need a drop in to make their day go a little smoother.
During wellbeing groups, children have great fun learning how to develop these skills through creative and exciting games. Although some games can be challenging at times, the children work extremely hard to work together and grow in confidence.
We complete whole school wellbeing surveys to ensure support is provided where it is needed.

Sexual Abuse within Schools – Peer on Peer Abuse, Sexual Violence and Harassment and Harmful Sexual Behaviour:
Our position as a trust and within all our academies is clear: sexual violence and sexual harassment are never acceptable, will never be tolerated and are not an inevitable part of growing up. Such behaviour will never go unchallenged or become accepted and we remain committed to working openly and transparently with to promote mutual respect.
Our Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy has guidance within it around the indicators of peer on peer abuse and harmful sexual behaviour along with our response procedures. All relevant Safeguarding Policies are available on individual academy websites.
All students are taught the Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) curriculum.
The appropriate means for disclosing an allegation of abuse relating to another student is always to inform a member of the specific academy’s safeguarding team directly or a member of the Trust Safeguarding Directorate. In the event that an allegation is made against a member of staff, this must be sent to the Academy Principal or directly to the Trust Safeguarding Directorate. We will always act on concerns raised.
