Sports Premium Funding
Sports Premium funding is being provided by the government to improve physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools. In 2014, the government announced that schools would continue to receive the sports premium funding until 2020. This year, schools receive a base amount of £16, 000 + £10.00 for each pupil in Years 1-6. The funding will be directly given to primary Principals to improve the quality of PE and sport for all children. However, we have the freedom to choose how we do this!
How will Sunnyside use the funding?
Sunnyside Primary Academy will spend the Sports Premium funding to improve the provision of PE and sport for all of our children across the school. Our priorities are strongly linked with Greenwood Dale Foundation Trust (GDFT).
How did we spend the Sport Premium in 2018-2019?
The last academic year, we participated in various inter-school competitions with other schools in Northampton through the GDFT and also Northampton School Sports Partnership. The children enjoyed participating in football, keysteps gymnastics, sportshall athletics, new age kurling, cross country, arrows archery, badminton, multiskills, hockey and tri golf since September 2018. The children thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the Primary Sportshall Athletics event in Leicester organised by Greenwood Dale Foundation Trust (GDFT). In addition, as part of the Northampton Kingsthorpe cluster, Sunnyside participated in the Kings for Gold event, achieving 2nd place. Some of the funding was used on transport to various festivals and competitions in Northampton and Leicester as well as subsidising costs for our children to participate in school clubs. Sport Premium funding 2019-2020
This academic year 2019 to 2020, we have bought into our academy partnership of Greenwood Dale Foundation Trust (GDFT) for £2, 200. We are also able to access events, festivals, CPD opportunities through Northampton Schools Sport Partnership (NSSP).
As part of the Academy partnership, we will receive in school support, training and CPD opportunities for staff focusing on developing high quality provision for the PE curriculum from CfBT Education Services. We have full membership to the Youth Sports Trust, which enables us to demonstrate to OfSTED our commitment to improving the quality of PE provision. It also enables access to various courses and eligibility for discounts. The partnership will support with Association for PE (AfPE) credibility for curriculum delivery and School Games Kite Mark credibility for competitions and extra-curricular activities for children, which OfSTED will recognise as provision of high quality PE and sport.
This academic year, we are having to run events very differently. We are partnered with Northampton Town Football Club who support pupil well-being. Normally we have already attended many competitions, obviously during this current climate it is not possible. We are thinking outside the box on how to run competitive sports within our own bubbles!
